I began teaching piano because of how much I enjoy playing the piano. I believe playing an instrument is a life skill, not just a career. I have used my ability to play the piano to help me in all parts of my life.
I want to share this joy with my students. I focus on love of music and personal satisfaction. I encourage my students to choose music they enjoy and engage in creating. Learning to read music independently is essential to my method. My students are very good sight readers and many of them play multiple instruments.
Good technique is essential to good sound and is taught in the context of a piece of music as well as through technical drills. Lessons are given in my home studio. It is a warm, personal atmosphere instead of an institutional one like in many large music schools. I have been teaching piano privately in Kirkland for over 15 years. I am proud of the great relationships I have developed with my students and their families over that time.
